from scratch....so we found a recipe and gave it a shot....
Bagels ( boiled ) : (allrecipes.com with some changes)
4 1/4 cups flour
4 1/2 tsp yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees)
3 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp salt
4 1/4 cups flour
4 1/2 tsp yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees)
3 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp salt
combine 1 1/2 cups flour and yeast....mix the water, sugar and salt together...add to the dry ingredients....beat together....add the rest of flour a 1/2 cup at a time...once the flour comes off the side....knead for 8 minutes...cover and let rest for 15 minutes.....spread out the dough and cut into 12 pieces
shape into balls....poke your finger in the hole and gently make it bigger...rise 20 more minutes
start a pot of water boiling....place 3 or 4 of the bagels into the water (3 minutes each side)
they will get BIGGER.....
take them out and drain them on a rack....place on a greased baking sheet
put on desired toppings....we like the GARDEN SEASONING from GFS
bake at 375 degrees for 30 - 35 minutes... turn onto wire rack
going out to play video games with the boys
Pleasant Dreams!!!
