April 1, 2012

WOW....3 months of the year already completed.....this is going by way too fast.

Two of the grandkids, Hunter & Ben, are staying with us for a few days of their spring break.....started off with church this monring.....Palm Sunday...Pastor Bob's message was GREAT..... http://www.h-hcc.org/

Pa (ross) worked with the boys after church in the woodshop and made rubberband guns....they are looking good....I will post pictures tomorrow after they are painted and have dried.

We are having Taco's for dinner...... the chives are from the onion garden this year...
Pa took the flour tortillas and fried them in canola oil and used them as taco shells

then.....he took the same tortillas and fried them ...layed them flat and put cinnamon sugar on both sides
our grandson Ben named them Cinnamon Disks

The boys wanted Bagels for breakfast tomorrow...told them we would have to make them
from scratch....so we found a recipe and gave it a shot....

Bagels ( boiled ) : (allrecipes.com with some changes)
4 1/4 cups flour
4 1/2 tsp yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees)
3 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp salt

combine 1 1/2 cups flour and yeast....mix the water, sugar and salt together...add to the dry ingredients....beat together....add the rest of flour a 1/2 cup at a time...once the flour comes off the side....knead for 8 minutes...cover and let rest for 15 minutes.....spread out the dough and cut into 12 pieces

shape into balls....poke your finger in the hole and gently make it bigger...rise 20 more minutes

start a pot of water boiling....place 3 or 4 of the bagels into the water (3 minutes each side)

they will get BIGGER.....

take them out and drain them on a rack....place on a greased baking sheet
put on desired toppings....we like the GARDEN SEASONING from GFS

bake at 375 degrees for 30 - 35 minutes... turn onto wire rack

going out to play video games with the boys

Pleasant Dreams!!!
