brought another batch of lettuce to church today....
a Honeydew Melon was no longer connected to the vine.....we were pretty sure it wasn't
going to be ripe.....not too bad.......love how the seeds are
situated inside of it.....basically in 3 pouches....
I scooped them out with a spoon
separated them to let dry....this is what we will use for next year!!

FOOTBALL season means Shrimp & Cocktail Sauce made from Horseradish...
we grow this on the farm as well...there are 2 patches...1 on each
side of the gym....
dig up the roots.... this can only be done in a month that ends in a "R"...
so September through December
we cut off the greens and feed them to the chickens.....take the roots
inside to clean and prepare....
use a potato peeler to get to the meat of the horseradish.....it has a white root
then grate the root into fine shavings and add to your recipe....
Cocktail Sauce :
2 cup homemade catsup
2 Tbsp ground horseradish
2 tsp cayenne flakes or powder
1 Tbsp lemon juice
mix it all together and chill before serving....

cut the garlic chives today....stalks and flowers...
we dry them in the oven and use them in all sorts of recipes....
this will be the first time we did anything with the flower part...
will let you know what we decide to put them in.

in between the LIONS winning and the PACKERS losing....
I made some bread.....we have been using the Dutch Oven Bread
recipe (August 17, 2012) for everything...
for dinner we are having Hamburgs and Brats...so we made the Big Loaf that we use for
sandwiches and the rest of the dough to make the buns for each....they came out GREAT!!!
LOVE...LOVE...LOVE Sunday Night Football....can't stay up to watch the
whole game but at the top of the 4th qtr....STEELERS are winning....WooHoo!!!
