May 9, 2012

today is our Niece Jessica's birthday.....Hope you had a super day!!!!

Had our first fly-by from the hummingbirds this evening ....in about a month or so, we should be able to get a picture of them drinking while I am holding their feeder....once they get used to me again.

My Great Grandpas Financial Diary for May 1912.....

what they sold or earned for income:
46 lbs of butter = $13.38
180 dozen eggs = $33.74
12 bushel of potatoes = $14.75
4 qts of milk = .37
rubbers = .22
so $62.46 came in

what they purchased or paid:
groceries (not specific) = $6.23
 feed  = $14.20
baker = $1.25
onion sets =  .40
basket =  $1.50
800 berry plants = $3.20
potato planter & hand = $2.75
straw hat =  .47
egg cases =  .60
hardware =  $2.18
pineapples = .72
road tax = $9.12
so $42.62 went out

so....a couple of things that I am not sure of.....earning 22 cents for rubbers and what/how were they buying  pineapples in May in Pennyslvania in 1912....no $50 teaching salary this month....good thing the chickens were laying good :)

Pleasant Dreams!!!
