another 95+ degree day, but that did not keep us from being very productive.
we haven't shared much info about our farm house.....we will give all of its history in future blogs.....here are a couple of cool things about the basement.....I come from Missouri and just about everyone i knew had a full or finished basement....but that is not the case here in Michigan....they have what is called a CRAWL SPACE....just enough of an area to get to everything under the house....
our basement has 9 foot ceilings and a beautiful rock wall foundation....
the other totally cool thing about our basement is the steps.....they are original....built sometime in the mid 1800's....the barn was built in 1847 and we suspect that the house was built a couple years later...
this is looking down the steps......
you can see the worn spots on the treads where folks have walked for the last 160+ years...
also, look at the handrails....they are branches from a Hemlock tree.....you can also see how some of the treads have been replaced with plywood when they just could not hold anyone any longer....and that brings me to my sad/happy story....
the steps have been questionable from the day we moved in...over 17 years ago....but we just could not bring ourselves to mess with history....well today was the day.....
sad to see it go but glad for the safe NEW steps!!! Thanks Honey!!!!
Pleasant Dreams!!!
