June 11, 2012

we made it home to Michigan safe and sound....had a wonderful 58 hour (18 of it driving) whirlwind of a visit to Pennsylvania and back......Thanks again to everyone who made our trip possible.....you were all so very generous with your time and energy...

Special Thanks to Ron and Cindy Smith....you guys ROCK!!!!

Cindy and my late Uncle Dave have worked together over mail and email for many years on all of the Miller genealogy and the cemetery info......she never got to meet him in person....here is a picture of Uncle Dave....

while we were in PA we were given several wonderful gifts.....
this was completely unexpected and we were so utterly amazed ....

My Grandpa Allen Millers clay marbles from when he was a boy.....in an OTT wine bottle.....
his mothers maiden name was OTT.

and this amazing pitcher & bowl set.....
these belonged to my great grandpa & grandma Elbert (Bert) & Alice

and the rest of the Chamber Pot set

all of these items were collected by a wonderful couple, Harold (curly) and Betty Lou (Ott) Kratzer...they would go to estate sales where Miller families were involved and purchase items in hope of one day getting them back to the Miller family.....we were BLOWN away by their thoughtfulness.

The marbles will be going home with Tim back to Missouri to share with his family and the Pitcher/Bowl/Chamber Pot Set have already found a home on an antique piece of furniture in the Rose Room of our farm house.

this amazing strawberry crate was given to us by a friend of the EYER family.....this is my grandmother Dorothy's side of the family. Connie Honey Dunn received it years ago from George Eyer....my great grandpa....it has been in her family for years...her children took it to college and used it for books. Connie found out that the we were coming to PA, she came to the church to meet us, share her stories and pictures......and then she gave us the crate......it has found a home on the front porch of our farm.....

when we pulled into the driveway of Elbert and Alice's original homestead a couple of days ago, we were thrilled to find the Barn still standing....we showed pictures of the barn on June 9th, 2012.....we went up to the house and met Joe Sneath.....his family purchased the property from Elbert after Alice died in 1957....he was a wonderful man and let us walk all over the property...while we were in the barn he said that he had a chair from when they purchased the property from Elbert....we found it in a corner of the barn.....we brought the chair back with us and Ross will restore it.....I will do a before and after picture when he gets ready to do the restoration.

As we were getting ready to leave, Joe mentioned that he had some bottles in the attic that he thought belonged to Elbert & Alice.....we came back the next day and he had found one bottle...

it says DR. S. PITCHER'S on one side and CASTORIA on the other side....we have a bunch of medicine bottles that we found here at the farm...we are excited about adding this to our collection.

Joe also gave me this scarf from his sister....we have placed it over the table in the front room....as far as we know he is not related by blood....but so glad that we met him ...we will be staying in touch.

this will take me several days to cover everything we did in the short time we were there.....
so keep checking back....
had a wonderful Taco dinner with Mom, Tim and Ross.

Pleasant Dreams!!!
