July 17 & 18, 2012

July 17, 2012

it reached over 100 degrees today in Jackson County....this is just not normal for Michigan

we worked inside....and cleaned the basement....it looks AMAZING!!!

while watering everything last night, I flooded my office building....clearly the ground is so dry...it is not soaking up the water at all....we have this issue in one spot at my office ....but normally only after a HARD rain....I didn't expect it to happen with just watering.....my desk is right where it comes in and I had to turn all of the electronics off including the internet...

this is why there was no post yesterday

not a drop of rain again this morning....it literally was raining inches just a few miles north of us and absolutely not a DROP here at the farm.....what was forcasted for us this afternoon missed us also......tomorrow morning we have another chance.....I sure hope we get some!!!!

went into town to run some errands.....one of them being a new battery for my car.....so Ross was joking that we weren't going to be able to buy it at a normal store and that it was going to be $300....well unfortunately he was right....we have a Chrysler 300C and in all the battery books it says....EXCEPT 300C.....so we went to our favorite mechanic shop....Steve at Midas .... he ordered it for us and YES it was $300.....that is just CRAZY!!!    so we have to go back into town tomorrow!!!

one of my favorite pictures during this time of year are the straw bales rolled up in the fields....

so we went by one just down the road from us and took an up close picture so you can get a better idea.....these are about 6+ foot in diameter......

the first eggs from the REDS are typically double yokers...
and they were again this time... LOVE IT!!!!

we ordered 25 Rhode Island Reds (girls only).....but as you can see in this picture we have a Boy in the bunch......we have been watching him....and as long as he doesn't terrorize the mama's each day...he can stay.....otherwise.....i will gladly make rooster noodle soup out of him.

Pleasant Dreams!!!
